Has the Basilica Cistern Reopened?
The Basilica Cistern has reopened to visitors. As of 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, the cistern is welcoming all visitors free of charge over the weekend; however, starting Monday, June 8, 2026, it will once again be open to visitors for an admission fee.
Although many international visitors were disappointed by the cistern’s closure, I had previously announced here that this closure would be brief. I would like to announce once again that the Basilica (Yerebatan) Cistern is now open to visitors.
The Cistern has now returned to its former glory and continues to captivate visitors. You can visit this place starting at 9:00 a.m.
